A DriveLock prevents unauthorized access to your hard drive. When you enable DriveLock protection, you need a password. A DriveLock typically involves a user password and a master password. Although these passwords can be the same, it may be a good idea to keep them different so you can still access the hard drive if you forget one of them. You may require administrative rights to reset a DriveLock password.
Step 1
DriveLock is a security feature that offers customers the advanced protection against unauthorized access to valuable data on their internal client hard drives.
Start your computer and press 'F10' while the 'F10 = ROM Based Setup' message is displayed in the lower-left corner of the screen.
Step 2
Use your arrow keys to select the 'Security' menu. Click 'DriveLock Passwords.' Press 'Enter.'
Step 3
Select the location of your hard drive. Press 'F10.'
Step 4
Choose the field for the DriveLock password that you wish to change.
Step 5
Type the current password in the 'Old Password' field. Type the new password in the 'New Password' field. Type the new password again in the 'Verify New Password' field. Press 'F10.'
Select 'File.' Click 'Save Changes and Exit.' This will restart your computer.

Hi All, I own a HP Compaq nx6310 laptop which I had purchased about 7 years back. I had configured a DriveLock password about 5 years back which I remember dimly. Yesterday while doing some R&D, I mistakenly removed the hard drive from the slot and then reconnected it. I didn't realise that it will trigger the DriveLock security. Now when I am trying to boot the laptop, it prompts me for the DriveLock password with two chances. Post entering the password (which the laptop says is incorrect) twice, it locks down the drive and says 'Invalid system disk...' press any key to continue. It will allow me to sanitise the drive through BIOS which means that the HDD is reachable through there.. however it will take atleast 5 days to sanitise the drive even using the fast method (it took approx. 7 hours to complete 5%) and I am even not sure whether the DriveLock password will be removed post this time. Please help!! Technical Specifications of HDD - Make - Seagate, Serial AT Disc Drive, 40 GB (HP 395290 - 003) |
